[Nagisa seems really happy today. She's wearing her blue stage uniform again today, and she can't seem to stop smiling.]

You know what feels really good? Doing something nice for a couple of friends, who have done a lot for you. So. Chieri, Shinji-kun? Keep an eye out, okay? I got you both an egg from the Breeding Centre! Come find me and I'll tell you all of the details.

[Nagisa smiles brightly.]

And don't either of you say no! I wanted to do it and I've been careful about money, so it's just fine. Okay?

[After a minute, she hums a little to herself - just a few notes, not breaking out into song just yet. Still, it's a pretty peppy melody.]

Anyway, I also have a question for everyone else! I think I might be getting close to being ready for my first Gym Battle! I'm kind of nervous, though. I know Falkner uses Flying Types, so Kaze, my Pidgey, is out. and I have Yuuko, who's a bred Vulpix at level 11 with Will O' Wisp and Flamethrower, Dii-chan, who's level 12 with Pound, Growl, Refresh, and Double Slap, and Hashi, who's a bred Piplup and level 10, with Agility, Growl, Pound, and Bubble.

Do you think that'll be enough, or should I train a little more? I have a Ledyba, but Bug types are weak against Flying, and I got myself a Shinx from the Breeding Centre, but it'll still have to hatch. I can try and catch something around here, too...

I mean, this is like an opening day. I want to be as ready as I can be, you know?

That's something friends do for each other?

[ There may be a hint of curiosity in her tone to match along with the question, but beyond that there's nothing readable in her stony expression. ]

It's something I wanted to do for them. Chieri's my best friend and my rival, and she's been going through a rough time, so I wanted to do something that would help cheer her up. Shinji-kun's been traveling with me since I got to Johto and he's helped me out a lot, so I wanted to do something to say thank you.

I think it's definitely something friends do for each other.

[ She's touching something off-screen with her other hand, but offers a nod to show she understands. ]

Friends give gifts. Is there anything else you would do for a friend?

I sing to Shinji-kun's Swinub all the time - it really likes the music.

But it's not just things like that. When Chieri first got here, I'd have made the trip from Cherrygrove back to New Bark Town and back again to make sure she was okay, but instead, Shinji-kun helped me send my Vulpix to help her get there safely. He's helped keep both of us safe from wild Pokemon and things.

Chieri pushes me to do better at things. She's really talented, but it just makes me want to push myself harder so I won't fall behind her. And she says it's the same for her. But it's more than that. We can talk to each other about anything.

I've heard that Falkner's Pokémon are levels 30+
So your Pokémon would probably get OHKO'd right now.
Take your time and train some more! :)

I'd suggest waiting a few more weeks. Falkner's team level is surprisingly high.

[And when he tried beating him for the first time he got his ass kicked. Ah, the memories.]

But if you see a Move Tutor in town, you can ask them to teach special attacks to your Pokémon. I bet a few of those have a type advantage.

30+??? I thought they were around 13 or so, so I thought I was getting close...

Mm. That's the second time I've heard that. I'd thought maybe I was ready, but maybe I got a little overexcited.

I really does feel good, doesn't it? Especially when it makes them happy.

But to answer your question, I heard his Pokémon are around level 30 to 35... so you're going to need a little more training.

I was very surprised when I found out!!!
But I don't mind spending the extra time training.

That's undrstandable. The Gym leaders are supposed to be the best local trainers and they give us the means to travel more efficiently, so everyone wants to beat them quickly.

He's doing better, thank you. Between your song, the time we spent on the road and that playdate with one of his friends, he's been acting more normally again.

It definitely does. Making my friends smile is something that's always made me happy.

Mm. Yeah, I've heard that from a few people. I'd thought it was lower, because the Pokemon you can catch around here are a lot lower. I got a little bit excited too soon, I guess...but that's okay. It just means practice harder, right?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like that! We all want to shine brighter, so it only makes sense that we'd want to do what it took to do that.

Oh, thank goodness! I'm really glad. Sayaka-san's advice back at home really was good: even if we can't speak the same language, music is universal. It's helped me a lot.

I was surprised, too! But it's really okay. I'm used to practicing hard for things I really want. It's better if you practice hard, I think - it just makes it that much better when you finally succeed!

[Ah... what? Chieri isn't entirely sure what's going on, but she'll meet up with Nagisa anyway.]

The chance to challenge ourselves is nice, too. What would be the fun in only fighting against weaker opponents?

I guess it would, barring deafness and the Soundproof ability. Have you been singing for a long time?

You'd never get stronger if you didn't challenge yourself, either.

I've only done it professionally for a little over a year, after I passed the auditions for AKB0048, but I've been singing since I was little. It was actually seeing them live when I was really little that inspired me, and so when the auditions came around, it was something I just had to do.

I know I didn't have to, but I really wanted to.

It's a Swablu egg - after everything we were talking about with the wind and all, I thought some kind of bird was right. Also, it's the same shade of blue as your hair is, so if anyone ever takes photos of you and your Pokemon, between you, your Oshawott, and your Swablu, it would be super-cute!

Anyway, It's got...ah, how did Laguna-san explain it? There are things that Pokemon can learn from its parents, called 'egg moves'. Yuuko has some, and you probably saw them yourself, in how she has Will O'Wisp and Flamethrower already; she got them from her mom and dad. Your Swablu will have some too - Agility and Dragon Rush.

I'm not to sure about having my picture taken... [Outside of Miichan and her photo shoots, anyway.] - But I appreciate the gesture.

[She'll have to do something for Nagisa in return sometime.]

'Egg moves'... I've picked up an egg before- Kirara, my Petilil- but I didn't know about those.

Well, maybe not the picture. But the part about the wind, and the blue sky and all...that's all true.

[Nagisa's smile turns a bit sheepish for a minute, then goes back to normal.]

That's right. I didn't know about them until Laguna-san was talking about them. The way I understood it right is that if the Pokemon's parents know certain moves, the egg that hatches from them has a chance of knowing those same ones when it hatches, so it's stronger at the start. So that's why Yuuko has those two moves.

...her name really does fit her. She wanted to go all by herself to make sure you were okay, you know.

It's fine- I understand what you mean. And I'll look forward to the egg hatching.

[Kirara hatched when she was still in Cherrygrove with Nagisa, but Chieri's a little more prepared to deal with a pokemon egg now.]

I wonder what egg moves Kirara has then... [She never asked, but Chieri's sure she'll figure it out soon enough.] Yuuko's name really does fit her, doesn't it? I'm glad she was there to keep me company while I traveled to catch up with you.

Passions that start at a young age are the best. It's good that you were good enough to pass the auditions; I bet there must have been a lot of applicants.

Mm, yeah! Just train some more and your hard work will pay off when you and your Pokémon defeat Falkner.

Though, if you're looking for another Pokémon to catch, maybe a Mareep? They're electric sheep, and you can find them just outside of Violet.
